Annual Meeting Letter- January 16, 2007

category: Uncategorized

January 16, 2007

Dear Christ Church member:

This Sunday is the Annual Meeting of the parish and it takes place immediately following one Eucharist for the weekend at 9:30 a.m. We hope you can and plan to attend the meeting in the auditorium in an “expanded” coffee hour that promises to adjourn by Noon.

In addition to the election of new vestry members and the recognition of those “retiring,” we will:

* review the 2007 budget;
* hear the results of our “Holy Conversations” of the past year, especially
* the goals that are a result of those conversations coming from the Action Planning
Committee and the vestry;
* be introduced to the chair of the Rector Search Committee,
* see the schedule for their work, and
* the criteria for membership on that Committee.

There is one important matter the Vestry wishes to place before the meeting for your consideration and approval. The Vestry will propose that the number of members on the vestry be reduced to nine - a reduction of three members from the twelve we have had traditionally. The reasons for this proposal are both practical and a matter of good stewardship.

For some time we have been experiencing a challenge in recruiting leaders needed for a number of ministries at Christ Church. That challenge is even more real at this time as we seek to recruit six members for a Ministry Discernment Committee (for Robert Thompson), at least eight members for the Search Committee (with no more than two from the Vestry) while seeking to preserve three Trustees and thirteen members of the Vestry - the twelve elected and the treasurer.

This situation bears on the stewardship of our human resources at Christ Church. Last Sunday’s Epistle from first Corinthians says, “There are a variety of gifts but the same Spirit.” There are a rich variety of gifts among the people of Christ Church but some of those gifts have little to do with board membership such as the vestry. There are ministers in singing and worship, people engaged in outreach, volunteers who help out in the office, just to mention a few. The aim here is not to decrease the involvement of our members in the life and ministry of the parish, but to insure that people are doing what they feel called to do and not what they feel they have or ought to do.

This is our thinking regarding the size of the vestry and we wanted to share that thinking with you before the meeting this Sunday. Please give your thoughtful and prayerful consideration to this request and share thoughts at Sunday’s meeting. We look forward to that discussion and your decision.

Faithfully yours,

Mary Anne Kersting, Senior Warden
(The Rev.) Michael Jupin, Interim rector

“Thanks for the Memories & Looking Ahead in ‘07″

The 23-25 December Advent IV and Christmas liturgies were a joy to experience. No small thanks go to all those who gave so much of themselves to make this season one of joy and communion: the altar guild under the skillful direction of Kitty Clovis; the choir and their consummate director Toni Limbers; the readers and chalice bearers ably organized by Jane Wade; the pageant and other children’s experiences overseen by Bill Saviers and Mary Beth Paugh; and the ushers and greeters who attended to the needs of worshippers.

Too much cannot be said as well for the work and unceasing attention of Beth Ann Wilson as she prepared a number of bulletins as well as overseeing the distribution of food baskets and volunteers such as the ever present and helpful Gay Courtney. And to Tim Radar goes out thanks for the preparation of our “rooms” of worship. Our thanks and gratitude to all these named and unnamed who helped make this another memorable Christmas at Christ Church. Read the rest of this entry »
